Let’s talk functional detail photos vs flatlays.

A good flatlay can be lovely, but there’s something special about seeing those details in context.

You give life to the pieces you choose to bring with you on your wedding day when you put them to use.

From a documentarian standpoint, there is so much sweetness that can be missed when I’m setting up details on a cold tile slab or piece of wood. Moments are unfolding behind me that is part of the narrative of the day.

Aside from the obviously awesome reasons to get married at home, probs at the top is getting to run around in bare feet. (Peep those feets on the last slide)

When we left North Carolina, we left behind these dear friends (and other special souls too). Our time in the South was short lived, but it was QUALITY. My heart is full knowing that I got to work with and then form such a meaningful friendship with these two. It doesn’t seem real that this is my job, that I get to form a real connection and then let that connection forge itself into a real friendship. I get to keep these beautiful, quality humans. I am grateful for many reasons, and this is a big one.

I’ve held off on posting anything from this sweet home wedding, mostly because I knew I’d be a puddle of emotion looking through and choosing images.

An ode to a first look

Seeing your person before you exchange vows is the best way to quell any stress you may be feeling. Are they your safe place? Yes. Do they know how to calm you and get you stoked? Definitely yes. Take advantage of that. Hang out with the most important person in your life on the most important day of your life.

You’re going to have nerves and a bunch of people staring at you both, watching for reaction as one of your walks down the aisle. You have that one brief moment in front of everyone to take it all in, to feel it all. Why not allow yourself the space and time to be together for a few moments, to let the purpose of this day sink in with the person you're there for?

This was Janelle and Taylor’s first look. I don’t even have words for how beautiful these moments between them were.

After a couple years away, Portland was calling us back home and we came running!

Travel will still be a huge component in my intimate wedding and elopement schedule, Portland will just be where I keep most of my gear most of the time. Also where Brian and Maeble will be 🖤
